Notes from the Field

organic-courgettesThis week on the farm will be our busiest so far this year, with more of our crops than ever ready for harvesting. Our courgettes have come on really well and we will harvest them this week for the first time for the VegBags. We have some great varieties, from the long and stripey (safair) to the round and yellow (one ball). We’re also harvesting our broccoli and our broad beans, as well as our salad.

We’re preparing to plant out our leeks for the winter time and there’s a few more brassicas going in. Since our early Swiss chard crops didn’t do very well we’re having to replant them this week too. We also found hover fly larvae amongst our salad and we’re pleased to report that these little guys are friend not foe – they eat greenfly which attacks plants. Hooray! So we’re delighted with our new residents.

Best wishes from Sam, Laura Jean and the Farm team.
