Notes from the Field

It’s been a busy week here on the farm and the sun’s been with us (almost) every step of the way.

The tomatoes in our propagating polytunnel have started germinating and we were able to sow three varieties of onion sets into the field – stuttgart, sturon and centurion. These white varieties will make a great addition to the VegBoxes and are a complimentary contrast to our florence long shallots. Our second tranch of broad beans have gone into the ground and the rumble of our tractor is seemingly ceaseless these days, as we continuously rotovate and compost the fields to prepare them for planting.

On Saturday, we initiated this year’s sustainable farming assistants – five volunteers who have committed themselves to coming to the farm for one day a week and participating in our programme of structured, practical, growing experience. So we’d like to extend a warm welcome to Ollie, Tim, Robin, Golly and Louisa who we’ll get to know well over the coming year – we’re happy to have you on board!
