The sun was well and truly out last week, which meant that our volunteers were able to emerge from the robust shelter of the VegShed and pack our salad and stir fry bags out of doors (pictured)! We even ate our Wednesday lunch al fresco from the convenient comfort of our picnic tables, which last week was a heap of tasty pancakes topped with cheesy leeks, thanks to one of our culinary-gifted volunteers. What joy!
The fine weather allows the farm more than just these memorable pleasures and last week we ploughed on and completed the inner polytunnel in our newly built, large tunnel and sowed the first of our tomatoes. We’ll be planting all of our tomatoes by the end of this week and, although we’re a little late with it, we are still inside the planting window so can expect good results. We’ll soon be rigging the tunnel up with electricity so that we can light and heat the beds and, this week, the tractor will go out onto the fields where we’ll start planting our broad beans and white onions sets – the latter of which were chosen to compliment the florence long shallots that are already in the ground, giving a healthy variety to our VegBoxes.
