Working with Grow South, we run Introduction to Permaculture Weekends on our farm. For those wishing to learn more, there is the Permaculture Design Course (PDC) – and after this, a diploma.
Social Landscapes are running a PDC from 2nd March 2014 to 1st June 2014 over 13 weekend days. We are pleased to say that one of these days is spent on our Farm (22 March).
Here’s more details:
The Permaculture Design Course is a 72-hour inspiring and often life-changing course, accredited by the UK Permaculture Association. Over the period of 13 days we will explore practical and creative solutions for building resilient communities and designing abundant eco-systems. We will discover how we can work with, rather than against nature to fulfil our human needs whilst caring for the earth and the people.
Dates and Venues
The course will be held on the following days:
Sunday 2nd March 2014 – Sunday 9th March 2014 – Saturday 22nd March 2014 – Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th March 2014 (residential) – Sunday 6th April 2014 – Sunday 13th April 2014 – Saturday 19th April 2014 – Sunday 27th April 2014 – Sunday 4th May 2014 – Sunday 18th May 2014 – Saturday 31st May 2014 and Sunday 1st June 2014.
To receive the certificate, there is a requirement of making at least 11 of the 13 days, including the last two on which participants will present their designs.
The main venue for the course will be a semi-detached home in Brixton Hill, which is undergoing renovation to be the first off grid Permaculture house in London. This location will allow us to design and explore real and practical solutions for our everyday lives in an urban environment, including small space food growing, community and human scale energy systems.
Other locations will include local Permaculture and community projects around South London such as Sutton Community Farm, the Brixton Remakery, Deen City Farm, and a local Forest Garden project.
We will spend one weekend out camping in a natural landscape setting exploring true community building, health and wellbeing, deep ecology and connection to the natural world.

Lead facilitator is Hedvig Murray from the Brighton Permaculture Trust. Hedvig is an experienced Permaculture Design Course Facilitator and tutor for the Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design.

Other guest tutors will be Duncan Law, Linda Royles and more (coming soon). Duncan is the chair of Transition Town Brixton, with whom we’ll explore hands-on solutions for urban home refurbishments. Linda is the founder and manager of Cob in the Community, a London based community-interest group re-inspiring the use of clay and cob in London buildings.
