The sweetcorn that has been shooting up in our fields for some time is on the verge of being ready to harvest – we’re going to miss it swaying outside the veg shed window, but that will be more than compensated by being able to eat it!
Similarly, our Sutton-grown beetroots (at least three varieties!) will be pulled up soon. Though some of you had beets in your vegbags last week, those were from another farm, so we’re looking forward to proudly presenting you with with London beets grown on your doorstep. Joris, our head grower, recommends making the most of the spectacular stripy Chiogga beetroot by making a carpaccio salad with lemon, florence fennel and a little salt and pepper and olive oil.
We’re also happy to see our pumpkins swelling happily in the field – your future Hallowe’en lanterns in the making, so that’s ample warning for you all to plan some intricate lantern designs.
