How to get an allotment in Sutton

There is also a social side such as meeting new friends with similar interests and enabling you to enjoy a healthy outdoor life with gentle exercise and a place to relax and unwind.

Getting a plot

Sutton has 2,300 plots available across 36 allotment sites. Most sites are full and getting a plot is a competitive process. You can join up to 3 waiting lists for any site. Waiting lists are anything from 2 months to 2 years at the time of writing. How big is a plot?

There are three sizes of plot and they are measured in a funny unit called rods:

  1. Full plots: 10 rods = 250 m2. Suitable for enthusiastic growers with large families
  2. Half plots: 5 rods = 125 m2. Suitable for smaller families
  3. Mini plots: smaller. Suitable for someone with limited time or inclination to start on a grand scale

Are the sites accessible for disabled people?

Sutton has a specially adapted site, within Cheam Park that is suitable for disabled people. There are 18 plots of varying heights surrounded by a sensory garden and a model plot to help give ideas and inspiration. Further facilities include seating, toilets and a sheltered area.
