We are really feeling the heat this week. The sprinkle of rain on Monday night did little to quench the thirst of our plants, especially the root crops that have shallower roots, making them more susceptible to drought. We have to irrigate through the night to ensure all plants across the site get enough water. So let’s hope for a good splash of rain soon.
In other news, our pumpkins are looking amazing, although these won’t be ready for a while. The leeks look very happy in their new beds. Our partners Grow South ran a fantastic permaculture course and this weekend we are looking forward to a cob oven building workshop.
Off the field, our team is passionate about the role community supported agriculture plays in promoting healthier lifestyles, well-being and a vibrant local economy. This week, Sam attended the Sutton in Partnership event, Public Health is Everyone’s Business and floated the idea that Sutton needs a food strategy, setting out how we intend to work towards a healthier, more sustainable food system. We’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
