We had a lot of fun yesterday at one of our pick-up points – Carshalton Boys Sports College – as they hosted their first ever Farmers’ Market. The farmers’ market was being held as part of a scheme that the school is involved with with the Soil Association, the aim of which is to get the young students visiting working farms to see how they operate first hand and to learn about organic food production. The boys then organise a termly farmers’ market at the school and write about the whole experience as part of the GCSE coursework. We felt it was a great enterprise to
Whilst we were there, one of the students toured us around their growing site, where they have an impressive geodesic dome that they use as a greenhouse and unique learning space. We did our best to suppress our greenhouse envy!
There was a great atmosphere on site, with the students ready and willing to help out and eager to hear feedback on how the day went and how they could improve. Thanks for having us and see you at the farm soon!
